Jesus can confuse and disturb those who love Him. However, He is totally committed to loving and serving those He confuses. Therefore, we should trust and treasure Him.

The Bible tells us that God is the 'Shaker of the earth'. He shook the earth when He spoke to Moses and the Israelites on Mt Sinai before giving the ten commandments to Moses. He shook the earth also when Jesus our Lord was crucified. And He will shake the earth one final time when He comes in judgement. Although this passage speaks to judgement, it also reminds us that a life of faith in Christ is the only way to be and remain "unshakeable".

Hebrews 11 is the great chapter of the Bible of people who were examples of living out the Christian faith, it also shows us that: Faith is: 1. Rational vv1-3 There are evidences all around us of the unseen hand of God at work in the world. 2. Personal vv4-8 God comes to individuals in such a way that those who receive faith see God as central to life in a personal way. Faith is no mere rational exercise. 3. Foundational vv9,10 We see in the example of Abraham that true security cannot be found in the things of the world. 4. Graceful v13 When we doubt that we can trust God or even ourselves, God shows Abraham, and by extension ourselves also, that He will see us through to the end if we trust Him. He does this through Jesus, who passed through the pieces (Genesis 15:17) for us when he died on the cross and rose again.

The message deals with the need for blood sacrifice, specifically the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. This is a concept that is distasteful and unacceptable to some, but necessary for salvation. 1. The depth of our problem - the world’s brokenness - our guilt - our bad conscience 2. The power of God’s solution Hebrews 9:12 “ [Jesus Christ] entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption” 3. How Jesus’ sacrifice can change you - through faith, you are perfected and can stand before God (Hebrews 10:14) - the motive for good works changes and the conscience purified (Hebrews 9:14) Conclusion Billy Graham at Cambridge - the power is in the blood.

1. Why we need an advocate: all have sinned (Romans 3:23). Even those who aren't believers still try to prove themselves. In the end, the heart knows that God requires a higher standard than we ourselves can provide. 2. How is Jesus the Advocate you need? You need someone acceptable to the Father. Jesus is that person in that unlike other spiritual advocates (priests), he will dine no more, and he never sinned. 3. What difference will it make to you if Jesus is your Advocate. It will give you: * a new identity *a guilt free status before God * a way to undermine disappointments and discouragements *a new path to good natured humour in life *the foundation for courage.
