As part of the Church's outreach we now provide free English Conversation classes to migrants, overseas visitors and students who wish to improve their command of the English language. Students from all backgrounds are welcome.
We offer the following classes every Wednesday during the Victorian school terms:
Beginners Class: 12-1pm
This class is suitable for those who have a limited knowledge of English.
Students are taught basic English grammar including pronunciation of the English language and construction of sentences for conversation.
Unfortunately these classes are not suitable for those who are unable to speak English. In these instances we recommend undertaking an intensive English course at Holmesglen TAFE.
Intermediate Class: 1- 2pm
This is suitable for those wishing to improve or gain confidence in speaking English.
Lessons are aimed at teaching students how to converse in everyday situations such as arranging appointments, attending medical clinics, emergency services, grocery shopping and purchasing of household goods.
Advanced Class: 12-1pm
This class is suitable for students who have a broad knowledge of English.
Subjects cover everyday situations they may encounter in Australia such as Emergency Services, banking, resumes & job interviews.
Students also have the opportunity to suggest subjects in which they are interested. For instance gardening, dining etiquette, Australian slang and Aboriginal history.
Saturday Class: 10.30am (commencing 17 February 2018)
We also offer one weekend class on Saturdays at 10.30am. We will be going over Shakespeare's play and will have some discussion questions based on the characters in the play in relation to everyday life.
Our ESL school terms for 2018 are as follows:
Term 1 17 February - 29 March
Term 2 16 April - 29 June
Term 3 16 July - 21 September
Term 4 8 October – 28 November
Many friendships have been forged over cups of tea at the end of classes so come and join us!
